Taw Oo District

Among the seven districts in Karen State people in Taw Oo district are currently facing the worst situation. Since the start of the SPDC's northern offensive, large numbers of the Taw Oo population have seen their villages attacked and food stores destroyed by SPDC soldiers. The villagers have been forced at gunpoint in to SPDC-controlled relocation sites where they are subjected to exploitation, extortion and forced labour. Many refuse to subject themselves to such abuse and instead choose to flee in to the jungle and live their lives in hiding as Internally Displaced People (IDP). Consequently, the youths in Taw Oo District are suffering from unstable schooling, food insecurity and poor health. They also fear being shot on sight by SPDC soldiers or stepping on landmines.

KYO is struggling to organise in Taw Oo District because of the massive population displacement.
